Alfa Romeo produced the Guilietta as a foray into the 1.3 litre class, a venture that proved very successful. Production of the Giulietta ran between 1954 – 1965 and over 170,000 were produced in total.
The model that we have restored is a 1300cc Giulietta Spider and chassis number AR171451. This car was manufactured on 15th November 1961 and was sold on 30th December of the same year from Alfa Romeo Inc. in Newark, U.S.A. This stunning vehicle left the factory in AR 716 Grey colour with Red leather interior and was the last one produced in 1961.
The car was imported into the UK in 1972 and was kept in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire and has remained on British soil ever since. During her time as a UK citizen she underwent a colour change from Grey to British Racing Green. It was in BRG that she arrived with us at Quest Brothers Classic Cars in 2014.
The Giulietta is one of the most beautiful Alfas to leave the factory, however over the years even the most beautiful example can feel unloved. The car's bodywork revealed a multitude of sins and was in need of some serious attention. Front-end restorations were in order to return her to her former glory and have her roadworthy.
Although British Racing Green is an iconic and splendid colour in its own right, it felt right to have the car resprayed in her original paint. With BRG removed and the body in white we could see that the front end was in serious need of reparations, which were taken on by our coachworks team in our dedicated body shop. Thanks to our team’s hard work, the front-end damage was completely repaired and back to normal revealing the Alfa façade we know and love.
A quick overview for you, there will be more coming very soon!
